The poem staring night is a very nice poem. It talks about how you can go through life with being something great, having a gifted talent and because of the society you live in, you never get the credit you deserve. It also talked about how people have gifts and they are capable of doing something great. The poem said people give gifts and then when they leave they take away. In my opinion that was very strong because tupac is my idol and when he was alive, his music was a gift to me. Now that he is dead the gift has some what been taken away. This is similar to tupacs life because he was very talented. But in the society he lived in he didn’t get the credit he deserved. He was limited to his success. Tupac was a star. The poem is titled Staring Night. In my opinion I think it is saying that stars are made at night. Tupac was very affected by is society. He was in a bad neighborhood his whole life. He was shot and even went to jail a few times. His mother was in and out of jail. Everything just was set up right in his life. So his full potential never showed.

If I Fail (27)
november 9 2009
In Tupac Shakur’s poem “If I Fail” he writes about how people should make plans or set goals and not become discouraged if “[They] stumble or crumble,” because we can do anything that we set our minds to (Rose 27). His poem is an encouraging and motivating. I feel that it is important to know what things you have planned in the future like, my goals , what my plans are, and what steps I’m going to take to achieve my goals. I can relate to this poem because at I have many dreams and goals and it is very hard to stay focused on those goals and dreams. It is very easy to get distracted. This poem helps me keep my head in the right place so I can reach those dreams. This poem also talked about Passion and determination. This will be the crucial to reaching one’s goals. Upac has been through a lot. Tupac has fallen many times, but has risen even higher each time. In my life I have been through a lot of hardships and battles that I have had to overcome. It was very hard each his but I was determined to go pass it. My passion for the goal I was trying to reach made me stronger.Tupac never had any help. Most of the time he was on his own. When he asked anyone for help they looked down on him and made him feel like less of a person. His mother was poor and in and out of prison. Tupac decided to go into the rough and hard lifestyle of being in the streets. In the streets he became a man. After all those problems he still fought to dream.

Chapter 4 sceneThe song I would use for this scene is changes.Narrator - Tupac had an interview to talk about the meaning of the word thug, and what thug life is. Tupac discusses why he uses the word thug. Snoop Dogg the person interviewing Tupac asks Tupac many questions to learn more about Tupac.Snoop Dogg – What is thug life?Tupac – Thug life is the life I’m living. When I say thug life I’m not referring to Robbing people or hurting people cause that’s not what I am doing.Snoop Dogg – Then what do you mean when you say thug life?Tupac - Thug life is not being scared to say how you feel, its standing up for your responsibilities and saying this is what I do even though people are going to hate me and say it’s politically uncorrected.Tupac – I feel like thug life is a stage that we all go through. The rich white kids go to military school and join the armed forces to become a man. For the black and Hispanics, we have to go to the streets and thug. Doing this was part of my progression of being a man.Snoop Dogg – I agree and I can see where you are coming from. A lot of people think you look buffoonish throwing around all that money and having all those girls around you. How do you feel about that?Tupac – I want them to think I’m Buffoonish. I’m being real. That’s what my life his like and I can only be real with myself.Snoop Dogg – So how do you feel about the violence in Hip Hop?Tupac – I think that hip hop as become intoxicated with danger but that’s real life. All parts of life have danger in it. But it’s not just Hip Hop that is causing violence. I feel like American society was built on violence. Starting from that enslavement of African Americans. America has always been involved in violent acts. Hip hop and gangs didn’t start violence that just what we all were brought up in. That’s the way it is. In my opinion America is the biggest gang there is. Snoop dogg – How do you feel about the movie America Most Wanted were you played a gangster?Tupac – I feel that the role was very easy to play because the role basically focused on what happens to me in real life. I didn’t really have to act anything. I was already used to being a gangster, and getting bullets shot at me.Snoop Dogg – that’s a really good point you have there tupac. It has been nice talking to you and I will see you later.Cry Sometimes when I'm aloneI Cry, Because I am on my own.The tears I cry are bitter and warm. They flow with life but take no formI Cry because my heart is torn.I find it difficult to carry on. If I had an ear to confide in, I would cry among my treasured friend, but who do you know that stops that long, to help another carry on.The world moves fast and it would rather pass by.Then to stop and see what makes one cry, so painful and sad. And sometimes...I Cry and no one cares about why.

Possessives templatesPidd also errs in punctuating possessive pronouns: “The outraged Fertilizer Workers’ Union decided the only sane response was to use it’s retirement fund to hire a gypsy to put a curse on Lud” (1). Pidd misplaces the apostrophe between the letters “t” and “s.” The retirement fund belongs to the fertilizer workers. Possessive pronouns indicate ownership and do not need an apostrophe. Pidd can fix the error by eliminating the apostrophe. The correct phrase will read, “The outraged Fertilizer Workers’ Union decided the only sane response was to use its retirement fund to hire a gypsy to put a curse on Lud.” Pidd falter when he punctuates singular possessive nouns not ending in – s. Pidd writes, “… The monkeys’ tragic death” (2). Pidd misplaces the apostrophe after the letter “s.” The singular noun “monkey” does not end in-s. Singular nouns not ending in – s add an apostrophe s. Pidd can repair the error by placing the apostrophe between the letter “y” and “s.” The correct phrase will read, “… The monkey’s tragic death.”Pid slips up when punctuating plural possessive nouns not ending in – s’. The error was “The couples’s infant child” ( 2 ). Pid misplaces the apostrofhe between then “s” and “s”. The child belongs to the couple. The plural noun couple does not end in – s. The rule for plural nouns not ending in – s is add an – s. to correct the error Pid should drop the “s” and add an – s. the corrected possessive noun phrase read, “The couple-s infant child”.

Spoken wordI believe that poetry saves lives because poetry is a spoken word that allows people to express how they feel and get their emotions out. With poetry people can say what they want and not hold their emotions in. I believe that poetry also can also motivate and lift up people. For example if you listen to poetry, you will get it will relax you and take your mind off the problems that you are having. Poetry helps you get away from the things you stress about. Another example is when I went to a spoken word a few years ago it helped me feel good about myself. It was a wonderful experience. Thery video was very good. The video showed how poetry helps young kids.

Ambition over adversityI liked this poem from the book because the words were very strong. The poem talked about people believing in themselves. When you believe in yourself other people will believe in you. It also talked about the people who don’t want you to succeed and the people who dought you. When this happens you should use that to motivate you and power you to prove them wrong. You can go as far as you want to go all you have to do is work had. This poems word can relate to everyday life. You will always have adversity, so you have to look passed it and overcome it.

The chapter 1 presentation went very well. I was very impressed with the presentation because it talked a lot about tupacs love for his mother. Chapter 1 went 1st and really set the bar for the other presentations. The scene written really expressed how tupac had love for his mother. There is not anything that I would change in the scene presented for chapter 1 because it was really good. The chapter 2 presentation by my classmates also impressed me. The chapter was titled The Son of a Panther. This presentation talked about tupacs life as a panther and the things he had to go through. One of the main topics in the scene was how tupacs mother was always on drugs or in jail and struggled to raise tupac. The people acting the scene out spoke very clearly and loud. Everyone took this assignment very serious and it showed in the end with great work.Chapter3 was titled No Malcolm X in My History Book. This presentation I feel was the best of the day. It explained the changes that tupac though should happen. The actors in the scene really acted their parts well.

Chapter 9 talked about tupac was facing a felony charge on drug possession. The judge did not sentence him to do time in prison. The judge made him do a free concert in exchange. Tupac was murdered a short time after. When people heard about his death they immediately thought he was faking it. No one could believe that tupac was dead. In tupacs songs he talked about being killed. He imagined his self being murdered before it even happened. Tupac knew his time would come soon so he made music that would still be played even after his death.Michael Eric dyson wrote that tupac was an urban legend. He was a legend because he spoke for the black, the poor, and the youth. He stood up to make sure that the generations to come would not have to live poor and be inferior to the whites.

My mother felt that the name kevan was a nice name for me. In my opinion I like the name kevan and I don’t mind being named after my father. My dad is a good man that raised me really well. He taught me to be a man and how to take care of my family. I am very grateful to have the name kevan. My last name is kind of funny but I like my last name. I think my last name gives me character and it’s very different. When I was growing up a lot of kids made fun of my last name but it never got to me. As I matured and got older I realized that my last name was wonderful.

Second interview with TupacThis interview tupac talks about black poverty and black negativity. Tupac wants all black males to get along and stop the violence. He encourages everyone to join the Black Panthers because it would help them with their life. Tupac felt that the Panther helped him with his struggle and he wanted to give back and help everyone else with their struggle. Tupac also talks about how his music is real, and how he takes written text and uses it in his music. Tupac thought that if written text was put in his rap songs more people would listen to it other than reading it out of a book. In my opinion tupac was very correct. He made music that young kids in the ghetto could understand and gain power from.During the interview tupac was very passionate about everything he talked about. All the questioned he answered, the response came from the heart. He seriously cared about what was going on in the world around him, and he wanted to make a difference

Tupac interview The interview with tupac was very entertaining. Tupac spoke very positively on the black panthers. Tupac was a strong leader in the Black Panthers. In the interview tupac gave us information on what king of things he was doing and planning to do. Tupac said, “he was planning on making black America and all the people living in the ghetto stronger and that when he had an opinion on something he would always speak on it instead of holding it in. tupac also said, That he felt that blacks should stick together and not talk about each other because other races are already talking about African Americans. These quotes from tupac really stood out to me. Reading Eric Dyson Holler helped me in many ways prepare for the interview. The book gave me a feel of who tupac was and what he was about. I didn’t know much about tupac until reading the book. By listening to the interview and reading the book by Dyson I learned that tupac was very passionate for his music. I also learned that tupac loved his mother very much.

'Chapter 5 To All The Real Niggas Out ThereI really liked this chapter because it talked about Tupac and how he used the word nigger. Tupac used the word nigger in his songs a lot. But this time it was used in a positive way. He used the saying “My Nigger”, as in saying my brother or my friend. Many people was surprised and didn’t really understand what he was talking about. But people in the ghetto and in the hood understood. In this chapter people ask the question of whether Tupac rapped positive or negative. In most of his songs there was negative lyrics and he talked about negative things but used it in a positive way. When Tupac talked about the negative, people who was going through those gone situations felt better about themselves.

Chapter 4Give me a paper and penIn this chapter Tupac explained himself and talked about how he became such a big rapper. Tupac used his music to express his feelings. Instead of holding in his emotions he let them out in his songs. If he had something to say he would say it.Tupac’s life growing up wasn’t that great. He wasn’t always able to be heard or listened to. So when he got the chance to be heard he took advantage of that. After Tupac would rap and make a song he realized that he reached out to many young black males, or anybody living in the ghetto.Tupac’s music was popular to almost all hiphop fans and he started to get a lot of attention. Even after his death people still played his music. He is considered to be one of the best rappers of all time.

The article that I looked up was titled” Katrina Hits Gulf Coast Hard Census.” The article talked about what Katrina was, and the effects of Katrina. It was a very good article that I thought was credible. Katrina was a big storm that destroyed the gulf coast. Mostly every thing along the coast was ruined. It was a big disaster that no one expected to happen.Katrina killed many people. Because of Katrina, federal funding became very low. There was not enough money to rebuild the gulf coast. Many people lost their homes, health care, and also they were not able to get an education because the schools were trashed. Four years after Katrina hit their was not much change from the effects it had on the gulf coast. Still many of the homes and businesses in the gulf coast were messed up.The population in the gulf coast decreased by 17,000 people. Many people left because they were low income and couldn’t afford to stay in the gulf coast. Today people from Katrina have move to cities like Oakland, san Francisco, and other parts of the bay area. They still are adjusting to their new environment but are happy to live in nice cities

jimmy’s Punctuating Pronoun ProblemsStewart Pidd Hates English contains the following information about pronouns: Pronouns function as replacement words for noun phrases and nouns. Three common types of pronouns that give writers trouble are indefinite, possessive, and personal. Pronouns have different functions: pronouns that do not refer to an object or a particular person are indefinite pronouns, possessive pronouns show possession; personal pronouns replace an object or a specific person. Pronouns can prevent unnecessary repetition. An antecedent is the noun that comes before or after the pronoun(s) that reference it (Pollitt and Baker 70-83). Faulty pronoun agreement is a common writing error. In “Go Big or Go Home,” Jimmy Dent fails to make his pronouns agree with their antecedents.Dent makes a pronoun/antecedent agreement error: “ Hey, Stewie, when a skater dude goes to Ludville Pipe, they need to go big or go home” (1). The singular antecedent “skater dude” does not agree with the plural pronoun “they.” To fix the sentence, Dent needs to replace the singular antecedent “skater dude” with a plural antecedent. The revise sentence will read, “ Hey Stewie, when skaters go to Ludville Pipe, they need to go big or go home.”Dent makes a pronoun/antecedent agreement error with a indefinite pronoun. He states, “ Nobody wants to put their relatives in a home” (2). The singular antecedent “Nobody” does not agree with the plural possessive pronoun “their.” The revised sentence will read, “They do not want to put their relatives in a home.”Dent makes a pronoun/antecedent agreement error using a collective noun. Dent writes,” On a good day, the Dent clan will unite to make their relatives feel like chewed- up gum” (2). The singular antecedent “clan” does not agree with the plural possessive pronoun ”their.” The collective noun “clan” is singular because it functions as a unit. To fix the sentence, Dent needs to replace the plural pronoun “their” with a singular possessive pronoun. The revised sentence will read, “ On a good day, the Dent clan will unite to make its relatives feel like chewed-up gum.”Untrained writers and speakers who make pronoun agreement errors should consider the wise words of Thomas Browne: “There is music wherever there is harmony, order or proportion.” Good writing is like good music. Having pronoun agreement brings harmony, order or proportion to one’s writing. Having harmony, order or proportion creates a nice flow, sound and good in the writing. Browne Thomas. jimmy’s Punctuating Pronoun ProblemsStewart Pidd Hates English contains the following information about pronouns: Pronouns function as replacement words for noun phrases and nouns. Punctuating English ClassIn order to punctuate sentences correctly writers must understand certain rules and concepts. A clause is a group of words containing both a subject and a verb. The two types of clauses are both independent and subordinate. The difference between the two are that independent clauses can stand alone as a sentence and subordinate clauses cannot. A phrase is a group of words not containing both a subject and verb. The three common sentence punctuation error are the comma splice, the run on sentence, and the fragment. A fragment is both a phrase and a subordinate clause punctuated as a sentence. A run on sentence is a word group containing two or more independent clauses without punctuation. A comma splice is a type of sentence error that consist of two independent clauses punctuated with only a comma. Stewart Pidd deserves a “D” on his paper “Skating Rules” because he makes many sentence punctuation errors.Pidd makes a fragment sentence error. He writes, “ his little step-by-step system for learning” as a sentence. He can fix this error by connecting the phrase to a nearby sentence or by converting it into a sentence. To connect the phrase Pidd must replace the period of the nearby sentence with a comma. To convert the phrase Pidd must make the phrase a subject and add a predicate.Pidd makes a Fragment sentence error. He writes, “when he canters out to his corvette.” Pidd punctuates the subordinate clause “ When he canters out to his corvette,” with only a period. He can fix this error by connecting the subordinate clause to the independent clause or by converting it into an independent clause. To connect the clause Pidd needs to omit the period after the subordinate clause or replace it with a comma. He can convert the subordinate clause into an independent clause by eliminating the subordinating conjunction “When.”Pidd makes a Run-on sentence error. He writes, “ I found this sick arrowhead and I will stick it into one of his low- profile tires.” The mistake occurs between the words “arrowhead” and “and.” Pidd has failed to punctuate two independent clauses, “ I found this sick arrowhead and I will stick it into one of his low- profile tires,” joined together with a coordinating conjunction. He can fix this error by separating the two independent clauses. To separate the two clauses he can add a comma after the first independent clause or replace the coordinating conjunction with a semicolon or a period.Pidd makes a comma splice sentence error. He writes, “ I do have a lot of drama going on, I deserve at least a C.” This mistake occurs between the words “on” and “I.” Pidd has punctuated two independent clauses, “I do have a lot of drama going on, I deserve at least a C,” with only a comma. Pidd can either separate the clause or subordinate one of them. He can add a coordinating conjunction after the comma or replace the comma with a semicolon or a period. To subordinate one of the clauses he must add a subordinating conjunction to it.Pidd’s failure to correctly punctuate sentences is the reason why he does not deserve a passing grade. Instead of a Skating Drama Queen, Pidd should have chose Punctuating English Class.
